China and Russia to team up to build a Moon base

Yesterday, Russia announced that they will not be teaming up with the US to build the "Gateway" or "Artemis Base Camp". Instead Russia will work with China. They both said that they might allow other countries to team up with them.

NASA has been working on the Artemis program, to land the first woman, and next man on the moon by 2024. A key part of the program is international cooperation. NASA and 8 other countries signed the Artemis Accords, to team up to build the Lunar gateway, and to land on the moon. All of the ISS partners signed up, except for Russia.

If you like when countries work together for space exploration, then you might be disappointed at this news. However it might be a good thing, because NASA's funding and goals are dependent upon Congresses support, and I think that Congress will be more likely to support the Artemis Program, if they are competing against China and Russia.

Also, Congress passed a law that bans NASA from cooperating with China on space missions.
